Portugal tourist information

For such a small country, the regional diversity of Portugal is incredibly varied. From the beach resorts of the Algarve, to the historic capital Lisbon, to rural Minho and the remote province of Trás-os-Montes in the north where old traditions still prevail. And even though the country is usually seen as Spain’s small neighbor it has a strong sense of identity. Visit Óbidos, an enchanting medieval walled town and don’t forget to try the tasty port wine of Porto.

Portugal by train

Portuguese trains are run by Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP), the national railway company. If possible, board an Alfa train, these are high-speed trains that run between the most important cities in the north. A little slower and less luxurious are the InterCidade/InterCity trains which link most large towns. Inter-Regionals and slow-moving Regionals or Suburbanos stop at everywhere.
